Congratulations to Kevin Scholes! winner of our European skiing holiday competition

It's your write!

Dear Families First readers - it’s over to you.

Have you ever dreamt of having something you’ve written
published in a magazine to inspire thousands of readers?

Well, as we offer these regular tuitions in these next few issues, we’re also giving you the chance to see your work in print.

While you follow these tutorials, think of what you can write about as a suitable topic to be featured in Families First. We are looking for 700 words on any or each of the following:

1. a news feature on a topical family-related subject
2. a reflective piece on a lifestyle issue
3. a profile/interview with someone who is helping families.

We’ll select three winners – one from each category – who will all see their articles appear in a future edition of Families First. If you’re one of the winners, this will be a great piece of published writing to start your portfolio and each winner will receive a bag of goodies to celebrate their achievement!

Entries must be well written, high quality, original pieces of work. From those, the editor will choose the three strongest, most
enlightening and entertaining features. They must be able to grab the reader’s attention, and maintain interest throughout the text, while putting across a strong message.

Please follow these guidelines to make sure your Families First entry makes it into the competition:

• This must be your original idea. We cannot accept anything which has been published elsewhere.

• You must be an amateur writer. We cannot accept a pitch from anyone whose work has been published in the mainstream consumer press.

Contact the office via email: familiesfirst@themothersunion.org or phone: 020 7222 5533 for an entry form and details of how to enter.

The final deadline is 24 August 2012. After that date, no further entries will be considered, and the competition will be officially closed.

Please note there is no cash alternative for any prizes and the editor’s decision is final.

Good luck and get writing!
